The need to be accepted by people, by society, can drive a man to lie to everyone else.
Peer pressure has caused many a person to live phony lives.
In a society that sadly esteems popular opinion at the expense of the pure ideals of honesty and truth, it is not uncommon to find many people living a lie.
Yet, that’s not the main tragedy.
This message is not for everyone, it is for a particular someone; that person could be you or me.
After putting on all the charades, after doing whatever it takes to attract the cheers, what do you tell yourself when you’re all alone?
This is sad, yet it’s true, “One of the biggest tragedies of life is not for a man to lie to the world, but to lie to himself.”
It is one thing to live a lie, and a completely different thing to actually start to believe those lies.
No matter who you are, what you believe, who you love, what you love, where you’re going, where you think you’re going – Please never stop asking yourself, “What is the truth?”
Even after you’ve been able to argue your way out, and no one else questions you, always make sure to ask your heart why you believe what you believe, why you think the way you think, why you are the way you are.
Don’t lead yourself to the point where you start to become the act you’ve had to put up to get people to like and endorse you.
Don’t jump over that cliff at the risk of not being able to ever differentiate between who you are and who you’ve made people believe you to be.
Don’t dive into the abyss of believing that who you are and what you’ve done to keep up with the lie are the same thing.
What hope is there for a man who can no longer see the difference between the light and the dark?
