Before you plagiarize ….

I use notepad apps a lot, specifically, The Color Note App, and of course, I use my several notebooks and pens to do my writing.

I have learnt the hard way that thoughts can escape and be hard to recollect if you don’t consciously make efforts to document them as soon as they come to you.
I think the two apps I use most on my phone are my notepad apps and dictionary app; the former to document all my thoughts, and the latter to make sure the words that pop in my head are actual English words.

For some weird reason, wild ideas easily come to me whilst I’m busily showering (I know most writers, and creatives alike, can relate to this) – it must be the water cooling off my heated brain or something.
So I make sure to carry my phone to the washroom, wipe the lather off my eyes and hands, and type new or random or refined thoughts and ideas as they come to me – Bottom line is, I make sure I have some sort of means to document my thoughts, even if they first come to mind as a word or sentence.

I later go over the raw material, put my heart and brain to work, and birth the amazing pieces I share with love with the world.

So I put up these as posts, and more often than not, get little or no feedback, only to stumble on to my work somewhere ….. on someone’s status, on a page, on a blog ……….. and not even get a single credit for my refined thoughts put on display on some space without my permission.

Any writer, any creative, would totally love for their work to be shared – don’t get me wrong – the sad and painful truth is, when someone takes something that’s yours, and portrays it as theirs, no heart can bear the ‘headache’.

You wouldn’t like me taking your child out for a walk without informing you, would you?
Well, that piece of writing you lifted, or stole or decided to ‘take out for a walk’ without acknowledging the author is someone’s brainchild.

So the next next time, you attempt to think about plagiarizing, please pause, breathe, and reconsider .
If you won’t pay for someone’s work, at least allow others to get to know the source of that work .. that hard work.
